The newly formed Gulch Tree Team is sponsoring an informational meeting on Saturday, January 31st to explain the new Portland Tree Code. The meeting will run from 9:30am-10:30am and will be held at Holladay Park Plaza in the Club Room on the first floor, next to the reception desk (the same room the monthly SGNA Board meetings take place in).
Do you know what's new with Portland trees? Here's a nutshell update, which is what we'll be exploring in depth at the meeting:
The Portland Tree Code, something that has been in preparation for several years, became effective on January 2, 2015. It has new provisions for removing and planting trees, both in public spaces such as between the sidewalk and the curb and on private property. The new code introduces a uniform system of permitting and encourages more canopy cover in the city, which is deficient in trees which provide shade. There are a variety of economic, environmental and energy benefits from getting the right tree planted in the right place.
Please make plans to attend the meeting and bring your friends and neighbors!!!
