Help make Sullivan’s Gulch even better.

SGNA is made up of your neighbors working together to improve the livability of the neighborhood. If you have a question or an issue of concern, SGNA is the place to start. Contact us on our web site or attend monthly Board meetings. If you’re ready to work with your neighbors to make Sullivan’s Gulch an even nicer place to live, join an SGNA committee. You don’t need to be an SGNA Board member to serve.

Committee Reports — April, 2017

Communications
Along with our Spring 2017 edition of our newsletter, the Gulch Gazette, we continue to improve and update the SGNA web site and are always looking for ways to connect with you.

Land Use and Transportation
Here are some things we’re currently working on:
  • An Update to the Sullivan’s Gulch Neighborhood Action Plan (SG-NAP). The SG-NAP was formally adopted in 1987 and last reviewed by the LUTC in 1999. That was 30 years ago! The context for the SG-NAP is significantly altered by updates to the Portland Plan now underway as well as by changes that have taken place in the neighborhood. The LUTC devotes part of each meeting to a comprehensive update of the plan to anticipate change and advocate for policy that enhances livability in Sullivan’s Gulch.
  • Coordinating actions. LUTC members represent our neighborhood as members of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) land use committee, on the Broadway-Weidler Business Alliance, on the City-wide Land Use Planning Task Force, and other groups. We’re currently initiating a series of meetings with neighborhoods that border the central city to develop strategies to respond to impacts from growth in and around the central city.
  • Development actions. The LUTC actively monitors any development projects proposed or underway in the neighborhood, including the five large apartment projects listed on the Development Corner map shown below.

Finance
Our budget for 2017 includes funding for more communications, Gulch-O-Rama, and FRS radios for the Sullivan’s Gulch NET.

Safety and Livability
Our committee focus is on creating a safer and more livable neighborhood through getting to know our neighbors. We all agree that the safest neighborhoods are those in which neighbors know each other, eat food together, work on projects together and help neighbors in need. We believe in our collective power, through clear and direct communication, personal relationships, and common goals, to create the safe and livable neighborhood we want. Our committee is always open and welcome to new members! We have a lot of fun together. We announce meetings on GulchNet, Facebook, and NextDoor — so keep your eyes out for future meetings and events!

Events
Our annual Gulch-O-Rama needs volunteers! Join with us to make this the greatest party ever.

Emergency Preparedness

TBD

Bylaws
We are working on an amended version of the SGNA Bylaws to insure outreach, transparency, and effective representation of the neighborhood. Our draft will be available online for review this summer for an extended review and comment period. A motion to adopt amended Bylaws is slated for our Fall Annual membership Meeting on November 14. We welcome your comment and participation.
