This article focuses on the Littleleaf Linden, native to Europe. They can grow 50-70 ft. tall and wide. See if you can find one! I use an App called “Picture This” to help me ID trees. Urban Forestry recommends creating greater diversity of tree species in our neighborhoods. This is a goal for the Gulch as well.</span></div><div style="text-align:left;"><span><br/></span></div><p style="text-align:left;"><span>Here are some of the good features of this tree:</span></p><ul><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Shade</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Tolerance for city conditions (including pollution)</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Non-toxic to humans and pets</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Heart shaped leaves (pale yellow clusters) that give Fall color (yellow-green to yellow-brown)</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Disease resistant</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Its fine-grained wood is sought out by carvers and furniture makers </span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>A nectar source for bees</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>The fragrant flowers can produce a richly flavored honey prized by bee keeping communities</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span><span><span>Its leaves and flowers can wave beautifully in the wind. </span></span><br/></span></li></ul><p style="text-align:left;"><span><br/></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span>Possible challenging features:</span></p><ul><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Sensitive to road salt</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Can be affected by Japanese beetles and aphids</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Litter from messy flowers and seeds</span></li><li style="text-align:left;"><span>Wrong use of insecticides can contribute to bumble bee deaths</span></li></ul><p style="text-align:left;"><br/></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><b><span>JOIN US!
