Check out this Mattress Disposal Guide, compliments of Tuck, to find out how to dispose of your old mattress responsibly and keep your neighborhood beautiful in the process. Lots of great information on where to donate a mattress, how mattresses are recycled, and how to use a junk removal service. Or, learn how to break it down and re-use the materials.

Who is Tuck?

Boasting the largest collection of aggregated data on sleep surfaces on the web (over 95,000 customer experiences from nearly 1,000 individual sources), Tuck aims to power consumers, sleep professionals, and the troubled sleeper looking for answers. Northeast Village PDX Now Serving Sullivan’s Gulch

8/11/2017

Sullivan’s Gulch seniors who love their neighborhood and want to age in their own homes will want to check out Northeast Village PDX. This “virtual village” is now offering memberships to seniors in a number of northeast Portland neighborhoods. It’s one of several in the greater Portland and Vancouver area.

These grassroots, nonprofit organizations use trained, background-checked volunteers to provide services that can help keep members in their homes as long, happily, and inexpensively as possible. Villages also offer a rich menu of social, wellness and educational activities and lists of vetted and/or recommended professionals – plumbers, electricians, roofers and more – who can be hired for major projects beyond the expertise of volunteers.

How does the village work? Members join at either the full service or associate level. Full service members have access to the full range of programs, volunteer services and vendor recommendations.
Associate members also have access to the activities and programs plus the vendor lists, but limited access to volunteer services. At both levels, members may also choose to volunteer. As of July 10th, Northeast Village PDX had 113 members, and it keeps growing.

To receive a service, the member simply makes a call to the Northeast Village PDX office to request such things as transportation to a medical appointment, help with light housekeeping or yard work, walking a dog, or assistance with paperwork or record-keeping. Using a database, the office volunteer then matches a service volunteer with the member’s request, and the service is confirmed.

Northeast Village PDX supports seniors staying home, staying active, and staying connected. Find out more at nevillagepdx.org; e-mail info@nevillagepdx.org, phone 503-895-2750. The village office at 5012 NE 42nd Ave. in Cully is open Mon – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Stop in and learn how one call does it all.

The Sullivan’s Gulch Garage Sale is coming, Saturday, July 15!

6/11/2017

If you have stuff to sell, then join your neighbors on Saturday, July 15, 2017 when the entire Sullivan's Gulch becomes a destination for bargain hunters. This is not your usual ”multi-family“ sale. The goal is to create a network of individual garage sales all hosted on the same day at the same time. Our sale coincides with the Broadway Super Sale, July 14-16. The Gulch will be humming with activity.

Here‘s how it works:
Decide what you want to sell, and when you register, let us know about any special items to include in our ads and maps. You host your sale at your house or team up with a neighbor. Last year, several neighbors teamed up to sell in the ”market alley”, located on the east end of the alley that runs between NE 24th and NE 26th, between NE Clackamas and NE Halsey. If there is interest, that might happen again this year.

SGNA will collect a small fee, and provides buyers with a list of garage sale sites and a map with locations highlighted. They also advertise the garage sale through yard signs and on Craig's List.

HOW TO REGISTER:
(1) Send an email to Chris Tanner (chris.tanner47@gmail.com) with the following information: your name, physical address of your garage sale, and your email address along with a list of special items to be sold. (This list will be used on our maps). Please indicate if you wish to participate in the Alley Market.

(2) Send a $5 check made out to SGNA, c/o Chris Tanner 2225 NE Wasco St. Portland, 97232. Mail it or drop it by (placing under the front door mat)

Questions? Contact Chris via email.

Leaf Day Pickup is Coming to the Gulch
No On Street Parking
Friday, December 16

The annual leaf collection in Sullivan's Gulch neighborhood will be Friday, Dec. 16 from 7 am to 3 pm.  This means NO VEHICLES CAN PARK ON STREET or they will towed at your expense.  No exceptions.

SGNA has organized two overnight parking alternatives, starting at 5 pm on Thursday, December 15:
  • Fred Meyer - You may park in any of the outer perimeter parking stalls.  No permit is needed this year thanks to the cooperation of Fred Meyer.  This is your easiest choice.
  • Grace Memorial Episcopal Church - limited to 30 spaces, and a special SGNA PERMIT IS REQUIRED.  Use this link to apply for a permit which we will email to you.   On the evening of December 15, park only in the outer spaces along 16th and Halsey and in the west row of the center parking spaces.  If you don't have a permit, please park in the Fred Meyer lot.  Thanks Grace.
Every year some people are towed because they overslept or their car wouldn't start or some other reason.  We suggest you park your car off street the night before.  And be sure to tell your neighbors about the no parking requirement leaf pick up, as well.

By the way, contrary to the old policy you can rake leaves from the interior of your property into the street.  After all, you're paying for it!  Here's the link for additional information about the city's Leaf Day Pickup
