TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Winter paving to close lanes on NE 28th Avenue

from NE Glisan Street to NE Broadway through Dec. 1st

(November 17, 2014)  – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street improvements will require lane closures on NE 28th Avenue from NE Glisan Street to NE Broadway from Tuesday, November 18 through Monday, December 1st, 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. each weekday. This project may also include some weekend work.

The lane closures will allow crews to grind 1.39 lane miles of pavement in preparation for paving at a later date.

PBOT street improvement crews work through the winter, adjusting tasks based on weather conditions. During the winter season, PBOT street improvement crews can grind down old asphalt and prepare street surfaces for paving even in cold and rainy conditions. They will return to the street to complete paving when dry conditions prevail.

Streets with ground down surfaces are open for travel. Lane closures are only in effect during project hours.

During the project, access will be maintained for businesses and residents. The public is advised to expect delays while repairs are being made. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.

This work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

One lane of East Burnside Street to close next week for street repairs

between NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and NE Grand Avenue

The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street improvements require the closure of the right eastbound lane and bus stop on E. Burnside Street between NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and NE Grand Avenue through Monday, November 24, 2014.

The lane closure will be in effect all hours and all days. The lane closure is necessary to allow crews to repair the failed road base and stabilize the foundation of the road to prevent potholes and other surface distresses.

A temporary bus stop will be located at NE 6th Avenue and NE Grand Avenue.

The public is advised to expect delays while repairs are being made. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all work zone signage, and use alternate routes if possible.

This work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.

Changes Are Coming to NE Broadway – Help Shape the Future of Your Business District!

Empty space and parking lots are being transformed into major high-density projects, infill apartment buildings and new commercial space. Familiar businesses leave and new ones arrive. Traffic is busier, parking is getting tighter, there are more bikes, and crossing streets remains a challenge.

Come to a community conversation exploring today’s NE Broadway Business District and what the future may hold for local residents and businesses. The NE Broadway Business Association (NEBBA) and Venture Portland are sponsoring an eye-opening evening of opinion from a panel of three experts, plus an opportunity for you to ask questions and offer feedback on your vision for the NE Broadway business district.

When: Wednesday Nov. 12, 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1624 NE Hancock
(enter at door on Hancock)

Our Expert Panel will present:

•  Current customer demographics and how NE Broadway compares to other Portland business districts for leasing rates, occupancy and other trends.

•  How the Corridor is divided into different nodes by development style and business type, plus thoughts on how to create a cohesive identity for the business district.

•  Coming changes for the NE Broadway/Weidler Corridor, the impact on businesses and area residents, and how to make the district more economically competitive.

•  Ideas for improving the business mix, streetscape continuity, and customer-friendly access given the reality of high traffic volume and major multi-lane streets.

•  How businesses can better attract customers and generate more revenue with great storefront design that doesn’t have to be expensive.

Our Panel:
Tyler Bump, Economic Planner, Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability
Seanette McCorkill, Frontdoor Back
Michele Reeves, Civilis Consultants

We hope you can come help shape the future of NE Broadway on November 12th.
