NEWS & EVENTS

Help Put Together Our Neighborhood Party

Planning is underway for this year's Sullivan's Gulch Neighborhood
Party, scheduled for Tuesday, August 3 from 6-9. It's part of the
national Neighborhood Night Out event. It will be held on NE 19th
between Halsey and Clackamas Streets. Before then there are many
things that need to be done before-hand -- organizing food, street
barricades, tables and chairs, seeking donations from local merchants
for the raffle. And on the night of the event we need help with set
up, bar-b-queing, and of course, clean up. We're also looking for local
musicians, of all musical persuasions (amplified and acoustic,
classical to punk), to serenade us. If you'd like to help, either
before or on the afternoon of the event, please contact Sy Kornbrodt at
sykornbrodt@earthlink.net or 503-287-8463. Many hands make light work.

Neighborhood Sidewalk History Project

As you walk around the neighborhood, you've probably noticed the dates
and names of contractors that laid the sidewalks we still enjoy today.
Leonard Cain is organizing a neighborhood project to gather some of the
history about who these "names in the pavement" were and the growth of
the neighborhood they contributed to. He's organizing some rubbings of
the names and dates, researching the people and including historical
information about the homes and people of Sullivan's Gulch. This is a
perfect opportunity to get the historical vignettes you know about your
house down on paper. Contact Leonard at

SGNA Board News

Congratulations to Leonard Cain, Meara McLoughlin, and Tim Haley for being elected to the SGNA Board at the spring General Meeting.

Since we don't have the excuse that the Department of Homeland
Security has not notified us of possible terrorist activity against
SGNA, we must rely on tradition, instead: August is a traditional
vacation month for SGNA Board. Barring the need to make some sort of
emergency decision, the next SGNA Board meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday
in September, 14
at 7:30 PM at Holladay Park Plaza, 1300 NE 16th Ave.
Please contact the Board Chair with concerns, questions and possible
agenda items: Dave Brook dbrook@easystreet.com, 503-288-4024.
