Momentum builds for Community Market On Broadway
On a sunny Saturday morning thirty-five neighbors gathered on the deck of Susan and Rick Gustafson's condo. From that vantage point, atop 1620 Broadway, the group had a clear view of our neighborhood---the NE Broadway business district and its surrounding residential area It is this heart of our larger neighborhoods (Sullivan's Gulch and Irvington) that is the focus of a plan to create the Community Market on Broadway at 1620 Broadway.
The June 17th meeting gave interested persons the first chance to hear about the project as it had evolved to date. Rick, as lead in the initiative, introduced his team and distributed an informational packet outlining the planning as of that date. Neighbors asked questions and made suggestions. Several signed letters of interest. This past week a small group of the investors made an offer to the developer, Alan Kravits, to purchase around 12,900 sf of space. On a parallel track an attorney came aboard to work with them to obtain the required State registration for offering securities. With shares at $1000 each, the goal is to gain 500 shareholders in our neighborhoods. To date over 50 have come forward representing over $1,000,000. While stressing the importance of early expression of interest (to add leverage in negotiations), Rick points out that these letters are non-binding; the actual securities will not be available until September or October. By that time a full business plan will have been developed for your consideration. Stay tuned for progress reports and please offer your comments and suggestions. This is to be a COMMUNITY MARKET! Go to the Sullivan's Gulch web site to get contact information, download a letter of interest and contribute your ideas. Sullivan's Gulch Trail generating Growing Enthusiasm Interest in the proposed Sullivan's Gulch trail is growing, following a series of presentations to communities along the trail, and meetings with local government officials. A Sullivan's Gulch/Irvington steering committee is coordinating this effort, which envisions a 4.3 mile trail and greenway corridor for bicycles and pedistrians from the Willamette River to I-205 at Gateway. The next step is to secure funding for an engineering study. On the Sullivan's Gulch website you will find a complete PowerPoint Presentation of the trail, showing where it might go, the access points, and other information. There is also a pdf Brochure for you to see and download.
