| Proposal for Albina Fuel Site On April 4, at a meeting of the land use committee, developer Don Milliken presented his concept for developing the Albina Fuel Co. site. SGNA Board members and neighbors from Weilder were also on hand to view the conceptual drawings and site plan presented by James Cooper of Mulvanny architects. Milliken is based in Vancouver, BC and specializes in urban infill developments. We saw examples of projects currently being built in Seattle. You can see examples of Milliken projects at their website at: www.millikendevelopments.com The SGNA board has supported the conceptual planning as presented to date. The land use committee will be working with the Albiana team and the City to address the very real transportation issues. Sullivan's Gulch neighbors are invited to contact us with their ideas. For the history of this land use case click here. As envisioned in the concept, the 427,000 sq. ft. project would include:
This picture shows the development looking southwest from the corner of Broadway and NE 33rd Ave. You can see neighborhood-oriented retail portion along Broadway, with housing above. Behind is additional housing in several buildings of varying heights, and courtyards. In the upper left part of the site along 32nd street, is where the YMCA would be.
The picture below shows a vertical section of the project, along 32nd Avenue. Broadway is at the left. You can see the underground parking beneath the retail and housing portions, and the proposed YMCA with underground parking at the right. Another feature of interest is the "arch" (with the tree behind) which provides an open-view from the end of Weidler St..
